Urban Fashion Leads Us Into a New Fashion Age

Urban fashion and hip hop fashion are two unique types of fashion that were originated by African Americans and other minorities in the most ethnic neighborhoods in Virginia, Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York City, Detroit, and Philadelphia. This very distinct style has become extremely popular over the course of the last 15 to 20 years. With the growing popularity of hip hop music all around the country, urban fashion has taken the forefront of the fashion industry, and as the days go by, it is only getting more and more popular.
One of the most popular brands of hip hop fashion during the 1990’s was Tommy Hilfiger clothing.
Though Hilfiger was the most popular brand during that time period, other brands were beginning to take form in the urban fashion world as well. Those brands included Calvin Klein, Nautica, and DKNY.
During one performance on Saturday Night Live, Los Angeles rapper Snoop Dogg (now Snoop Lion) wore a Tommy Hilfiger shirt during his live performance, stores all across the country sold out of that shirt the very next day.

During the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, hip hop artists from around the globe began launching their very own fashion labels. These fashion labels capitalized on their popularity in music and taste in clothing, and people began rushing the stores to by these new clothes
Some of the most popular rapper turned fashion artists include P. Diddy (Sean John), Russell Simmons (Phat Farm), and 50 Cent (GUnit Clothing).

This line of fashion has been dominated by the likes of these types of music artists, and it will only continue to become more popular.
As the popularity continues to grow, you will see a mix of new trends along with a rehash of older trends that are making their way back into
the light.

Urban Fashion and Street Fashion Trends and Influences

Street fashion is not specific to a single style of dressing but it covers various urban fashion styles that are unique in creation by young people who liked to dress that way. This fashion has its roots in the streets and has emerged from the youth rather than fashion designers and runways

This style has influenced the high fashion designers of the world, who now seem to favor designing tight-fitting jeans and loose flowing hippie like dresses, which were formerly worn by street fashion or punk. This style is being introduced as innocent and demure. This Hip hop fashion, which originated in street fashion, has now become a billion dollar industry.

This style is known as a statement of the music culture. Hip hop emerged from the African American urban movement and music industry. This street fashion style is worn by well-known athletes. Top designers like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren have adopted this urban fashion style and included it in many of their designs. This influence by top designers has taken this popular style to a whole new level.  Street fashion in the United States is the main influence on Japanese street fashion. Fashion trends from abroad have the strongest influence on Japanese fashion, even though most clothing labels are produced in Japan. Hip hop culture is credited with influencing the fashion trends of Japanese fashion which is greatly dictated by the underground club scene of Japan.

Every culture in the world has youth that desire to make a statement even though most street fashion is influenced by what is worn by the youth of the United States. Every generation makes its own statement by the clothing they choose to wear. Urban fashion statements are renewed every decade by a new generation of youth, who have developed their own unique street fashion trends.

One of the Top Fashion Designers, Coco Chanel Will Come to Life in New Movie

Kiera Knightley, British film star, is set to play the Chanel creator in a film directed by Karl Lagerfeld. The film celebrates fashion designer Chanel’s 100th anniversary. In what is perhaps her most stylish role to date, Keira Knightley has shunned her 'uniform' of period clothing to play renowned fashion designer Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel.

In a trailer released by the French fashion house today, Knightley, the face of the brand's Coco Mademoiselle fragrance, is shown conniving with French actress Clotilde Hesme, who plays Adrienne, her aunt. Although to be exact, she was Coco's aunt, Adrienne was near the same age as the fashion designer and the two had a strong friendship. She and Coco's sister, Antoinette, would stroll through the town wearing Chanel creations to promote the top fashion designer’s boutique. Lindsey Wixson, top American teenage model, stars as one of the immaculately -dressed women sauntering around the town's boulevard.

The title, Once Upon a Time, is set in 1913 in Deauville, the alluring holiday destination in Normandy, in northern France. It was here that Chanel opened her first store with the backing of her lover at the time, Arthur 'Boy' Capel.
The film also stars models Caroline de Maigret , Stella Tennant, Jamie Bochert, together with Lagerfeld's muse Lady Amanda Harlech and her daughter Tallulah, as well as male Chanel favourites Brad Kroenig and his son Hudson (who also happens to be Lagerfeld's godson), Jake Davis, Sébastien Jondeau, and Baptiste Giabiconi.

It will premiere on May 8, when the brand displays the next Cruise collection in Singapore, and shot on location later this week. The town is now peppered with neon signs, and billboards, leaving Lagerfeld and his team to reconstruct detailed, retro sets to show the town as it were 100 years ago.
This is one of the latest films with top fashion designers clothing the stars. Prada envelopes Leonard DiCaprio in Brooks Brothers, while Catherine Martin creates flapper dresses and other era-appropriate pieces in the movie “The Great Gatsby”. Tom Ford created hand-made suits tailored to fit Daniel Craig like a glove in Quantum of Solace (2008), and Skyfall (2012).
